A collection to brighten even the darkest of winter days
The first show to take place at E-Werk, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin’s venue was the debut of Amesh Wijesekera that can be titled by almost one word: colour! The London born Sri Lankan designer who grew up in Colombo, Sri Lankas capital, now lives between the two cities which obviously strongly influences his designs.

His Autumn/Winter 2019 collection is made to brighten every day. It is dominated by vibrant and bold colours like red, magenta, orange, yellow, green, and blue completed with pale gold and brushed copper that make you intuitively think of Indian spice markets or sunsets in the Indian Ocean. As various as his selection of colours are the fabrics the designer uses. Bold patterned tech fabrics are combined with fine silks, skilful stitching and rough knitwear to form voluminous and expressive, mostly genderless silhouettes. We see a variance in designs from relaxed T-Shirts with patches made of colourful sunset like fabrics and coloured fringes, cool shorts and wide pants, more formal shirts - loosened up by colourful patches, elegant blazers and coats to sexy tops. No matter how different each design is as such the combination of all is still harmonious and pleasing for the eye.
Overall Amesh Wijesekera made an impressive debut with his first major collection that was far from mainstream and we are excited to see more in the coming seasons.
